About Me At JSConf EU

I know I am not in the list of speakers page yet, but I am actually in the official schedule already. It's about jsconf.eu and my talk on Sunday morning at 10:45 entitled ... Buzz It For Real ! ... the tortuous road to Mobile HTML5 Apps For the very first time in my life I will not represent just myself during a conference. This time I will talk about few ideas, problems, and solutions, we have faced during the " still in beta " development of our Mobile HTML5 Applications. I will talk about some problem completely ignored by majority of HTML5 developers providing concrete real-world examples, and solutions, over tested code. I know Sunday comes after the first conference party and I hope you, as well as me, won't be too drunk to follow my talk :D Of course a SpeakerRate page was a must have so see you there and enjoy the conference!

OS X Lion Automator And Mobile NOKIA Maps

When I have read this article about Making Desktop Webapps in Lion my first thought was " cool! " instantly followed by " what about an experiment with Mobile NOKIA Maps WebApp? " ... and here I come :) m.maps.nokia.com is the beta project I am working on right now together with a bounce of HTML5 geeks :P in order to bring the mature NOKIA Maps experience on Android 2.2+, iOS4+, and others already supported or " coming soon " devices. Optimized for mobile but still usable with Desktop Chrome or Safari browser, the web app is quite " cute " seen in iPhone or other medium and small screens and this experiment was about bringing same " cuteness " on my Mac Mini as well: partially successful! Lion Automator And WebPopup Limits Unfortunately it is not possible to customize that much the popup browser user agent and I am not even sure what kind of engine is used there ... With iPhone UserAgent the version exposed is 3 and Webkit 430+ . W...

ES5 NOW! ... or better, @falsyvalues

Update more than a person asked me more details and here I am: The workshop will be Thursday 19th of May on Track 3 and from 9am to 5pm. Registrations open at 8am and to be sure everything I have written is correct, please double check the schedule . This time is not about my uncle, this time is about my workshop in Warsaw, during Falsy Values Event , and this is its description: Massive rumours behind buzz words such HTML5 and ES5, the latest updated specification about JavaScript programming language, have surely increased confusion about where is JavaScript today, and how this language should be in the future. Unfortunately, we all know that many users are still trapped behind really outdated browsers and their relative JS engines. This could lead us to be stuck with old coding patterns and style but here I am to show most recent performances oriented techniques that could make the transition to this new specification less painful and efficient Size matters: code size oriented tech...

The Status of Mobile Browsing

In this year I have done more tests than ever over all these tiny and shiny portable devices and I'd like to share with the Web community the result of my experiments at the end of this 2010. " why not before xmas, ffs? " ... because whatever you bought as present for you or your relatives, will hopefully be updated soon with latest systems and related browsers :) The Dedicated WebKit ... Nightmare! As ppk mentioned already in Front Trends conference, we have basically only 5 browsers in our desktop PCs/Macs/Linuxes machines. Much more fun comes when we think we are dealing with a single browser, a generic WebKit based one, and we discover that there's no browser similar to another one, every bloody device has its own implementation with few exceptions represented by Safari Mobile, almost the same in iPad, iPod, and latest iPhone. WebKit and CSS(3) Even if the CSS engine is basically the same for every single specific implementation, the number of supported, and ...

Leaving London for Berlin - Nokia Gate5

This is just a quick post. First of all, my apologies about my recent absence: you have not even a rough idea about how busy I have been these days ... Everything is a rush, but if "the rush" is for a good cause it's just a pleasure! I am organizing my relocation which means I need to close contracts here, flat included, bills, sort out any kind of paperwork I need to leave UK in basically 2 weeks, while I am working, and I still have no idea where I gonna sleep, where I gonna move, but it does not matter: I can't wait to start this new role in Nokia! Why Nokia To be honest, I had different choices, but Nokia company in my opinion has been: Perfectly Organized When you have to deal with big companies you deal with teams, and in this case I had the opportunity to meet extremely interesting teams and persons while somebody else is not even able to organize their recruitment, putting online " We Are Looking For ... " while they have "all they are looking ...

[OT] United Kingdom Internet Restrictions - You Are Doing It Wrong!

I though the worst case scenario about " politicians and internet relationship " was Italy, where politicians average age is 65 and internet is still considered an " uncontrolled porn and communists place " and nothing else ... but I was wrong. Today I bought an USB pen for mobile broadband to have access to the net with a pay as you go solution, until I will solve my flat+internet problems. It has been extremely simple: You go to the shop, you buy the pen, you top up what you want, you surf the web ... fair enough, the installation under Windows XP SP3 was quick and simple ( anyway, I wonder when this companies will realize that main operating systems are 3, not just PC and Mac ... I cannot use the the software under my Ubuntu partition ... annoying ! ) The first step, after installation, has been go to edit a post I published yesterday evening and with extreme surprise I found a bar on the top of the blogger platform which showed me the name of the company, rather...
